24 hours in Amsterdam
For my last summer trip, I went to Amsterdam for a day. More precisely, 16 hours. I took a night bus from Paris at 10 pm and arrived in this lovely city 8 hours later. What can you do when you're in Amsterdam for only a day?
Best things to do in Amsterdam in one day
1- Amsterdam in the morning: the Museumplein.
6 AM: Out of the train station, the sun was slowly rising and people were already out, heading to work or school.
I love taking long walks in the morning because the light makes it easy to take nice pictures and the streets are empty making you feel like the city is yours.
The best thing about the morning is also the museums. If you want to enjoy or discover art in Amsterdam, head to the Museumplein. The place is the most crowded during the day, but in the morning, you can only see a few tourists and photographers.
The Rijsk and Van Gogh museums are open from 9 am and are a very good way to start the day. I would suggest going to the Van Gogh Museum because it’s my favorite and you learn so much about the artist’s life and predominant works.
2- The Bloemenmarkt
Why not continue your day with a stroll in the flower market?
Well, there is no way to visit Amsterdam and miss the flower market. I wouldn’t! Every single time, it’s still worth a little walk. I always love to visit the shops and leave with a little souvenir. There are plenty of items to bring home and the atmosphere is different from the rest of the city. There is also a beautiful view from behind the market.

3- The city center
It’s always active. From the Dam square, if you like street performances to Kalverstraat or Leidsestraat if you’re more into shopping, you will find your perfect itinerary. Getting lost in the streets is always a good idea since you can discover something that was not on your plans. Since December is coming fast, the streets will become Christmas markets.
