A day in Burano

Venice most colorful island

Burano was number one on my bucket list in Venice. These colored houses and pretty canals couldn’t be missed. So I grabbed the first Vaporetto of the day and went for a discovery of one of the prettiest gems of Italy.

The island is very small and can be visited in a few hours, and you will actually have time to eat, take pictures and buy some souvenirs. Note that it is famous for its lace, so maybe you would love to grab a pretty little gift.

HOW DO YOU GET TO BURANO ?

By taking the Vaporetto line 12, the first is from Venice at 5:40 am and the last from Burano is at around 10pm.

WHAT TO DO IN BURANO ?

You won’t need a Burano guide since the island is tiny and not as touristic as Venice. There is only one street with shops and restaurants. Get lost in the little corners and walk around the canal for an amazing feeling. The island can be very calm and peaceful. And on the hottest summer days, enjoy the fresh breeze of the little streets.

Visit Mazzorbo and Torcello too!

If you have the whole day to spend on the Venetian islands, I definitely recommend discovering two other islands, less famous but absolutely gorgeous: Mazzorbo and Torcello.

Mazzorbo can be reached by a bridge located near the Vaporetto stop. You will be able to walk around its calm neighborhood and visit its vineyards and lovely church.

To reach Torcello, you'll need to take the  Vaporetto line 12. The island used to be the first place Venetians lived but is now almost empty. It's a little more visited than Mazzorbo but it will be easy to find quiet corners while walking around.
