The perfect summer getaway
If you're looking for a relaxing weekend trip in France, make sure to consider this hike on the "Côte d'Opale" from Boulogne-sur-mer to Calais. It's surely one of the most beautiful trails of the coast. Neverending views on the sea, little towns, sand beaches, and not much elevation gain.
It takes 2 or 3 days to walk the 50km of this hike, depending on your walking pace and shape. You will need to plan ahead and find a place to sleep between the villages.
Even though this trail takes more than a day to finish, you can try walking only a part of it, and visiting the coast by car, train or bus.
Boulogne-sur-Mer, the very first fishing port of France.
This town is also home to the largest aquarium in Europe. Make sure to take half a day (or the whole day if you can) to visit Nausicaá, you won’t be disappointed! End your visit of Boulogne with a stroll in the old town and admire its beautiful ramparts.
What you'll see
The hike takes you to many little towns such as Wimereux, Ambleteuse, Audresselles, Audinghen, Wissant or Escalles. If you're lucky or check the times of the tides, you will be able to to a good part of the walk on the beach (especially when arriving in Calais).
Two breathtaking viewpoints on the Cote d'Opale are Cap Gris Nez and Cap Blanc Nez. They are great spots to take a break and admirer the sea before heading back.
Ending this Côte d’opale trip in Calais means you get to admire the city’s architecture and monuments such as its lighthouse, belfry, and Rodin’s famous monument called “Bourgeois de Calais”.
